You may come for the food, the service, or the ambiance. You probably came for the beer. All of the above are top notch. Now, you may not know about "cask beer" or "real ale". That's OK. This is the place to learn about it. That's what I did. I had no idea or experience with cask beer. Cask means the beer is conditioned in the cask, here called a firken. Naturally carbonated. Naturally delicious. Naturally no ill effects on me. I have been enjoying their Kings Taxes and other darker real ales here for 10 years and never experienced any problems the next day. No tight neck, no headache, no pain at all. Certainly never a hangover. In fact, after having MacLeod's Real Ale, I honestly feel better the next morning. My head is clear. Eyes wide open. It's a great elixir. Pairing with the food on the menu is easy as they have wonderful house made pizza, calzone, salads, wings, meatballs, meatball sliders, cheese, bread, fougasse with beer cheese, marinated olives, and a Sunday brunch. If you still have room for dessert, they have little jars of lemon posset, butterscotch budino, vanilla panna cotta with raspberry, chocolate panna cotta, and English trifle. In addition to the real ale cask conditioned beer there is a variety of draft and nitro offerings as well as cans to take home. There are some non-alcoholic beverages, but I'm not familiar with them. This is one of only two hand pumped real ale breweries in Los Angeles. Do yourself a favor and come and enjoy ! This is also a place to enjoy wearing your kilt either for one of the many Scottish holidays parties or anytime you like!

All the good feels just too far of a drive for us. If you're within 20 miles or so you should definitely go.

They offer delicious beers and pizza! Their selection of beers is impressive, with Little Spree and Van Ice being standout options. The Margherita pizza is flavorful and pairs perfectly with the beer. However, parking can be challenging since the location is near body shops.

Pizza is delicious!!! Make sure they're still serving/kitchen is open before you go just for that. I don't really like beer so can't speak to that. The brewery has a really cool layout for a date night or to hang with friends. Love the outside space and there are games like cornhole for group entertainment. *Only thing is parking can be a nightmare

One of the best kept secrets in Los Angeles. Located in the middle of tow truck yards and junk yards is the coolest brewery in the Van Nuys area. You have to check it out. All you smell is jasmine and garlic. It's amazing. The service is fast and easy going. It takes only a few minutes to get your beer and food. Everyone else goes for the beer and pizza. I go for the Cesar Salad and meatball with Rosemary bread. It's excellent and so inexpensive.

Macleod's it's been a minute! I'm not so much within walking distance of you these days, but truly glad to return to the Mac. Macleod Ale Brewing is the hidden hub in Van Nuys, Los Angeles, California. Opening it's huge roll up doors in 2014. It's grown, flourished and adapted with the bumps in the road. The decor and ambiance is a cross blend of English, Scottish and San Fernando Valley. It's a very intimate yet spacious modern warehouse layout filled with nothing but (unofficial official) Van Nuys Village charm. Flights are still a great way to try it all, but even there with the variety of craft, custom and classic style brews you have a large variety... Not to mention cider, seltzer, wine and non adult beverages. For food its custom in-house pizzas, salad, snacks and appetizers. I'm really bummed they took the vegan pizzas off the menu - was incredible on so many levels, plus they seem to have limited most of the veggie options. Vegan Jackfruit as well as Vegan Chorizo pizzas forever in my heart. Meeting up with the same group of friends I first popped into this LA Valley gem with made for a great experience. The Kester Kooler - Kool Aid hard seltzer is official a new favorite, but you can't go wrong with anything here depending on your preferences and/or pallet. The staff is still wonderful in every way. Loads of seating inside on both sides as well as outside on the patio - everything open air. Great music. Gender Neutral restrooms. Pet friendly. Kid friendly. Open to all. Parking will be a little bit of a struggle but it's only two blocks or so from the Metro Station for Van Nuys Blvd, easy rideshare drop off (or pick up when time to leave) and you can get lucky more so on side streets than Calvert itself. Come for a drink, stay for three.

Lovely hidden gem in the valley. So many great beer options and surprisingly good food to boot. Staff has always been quick and friendly. Order your pizza well done! Also try the Kester Kooler if you want to be nostalgic and love Kool-Aid. Parking can be a little difficult sometimes.

Staff are great, but the truth is that everyone comes for the beer. Nectar of the gods, Marangie! Why would you go to get a beer somewhere when you could come here and have the beverage of Zeus? Place is clean, chill, full of fun games, mellow friendly crowd, indoor outdoor seating, and 20 different specialty brews (with a nice alcohol content). Don't be a douche. If you're cool, check it out. Oh yeah, they have their own canned brews to take home.

All beers were delicious Flynn the Crow was really surprising dark but light. The pizza was also delicious . Both indoor and outdoor seating and onsite parking. Dog friendly, great atmosphere! You order your beer at the counter and they bring your food to your table.

Macleod is a fun little warehouse spot in the middle of a not-so-savoury part of Van Nuys. There's a nice selection of beer with cutesy, Valley-related names (Van Ice, Saticoy Sour, Cran Nuys, Haka On Hazeltine). They have their own kitchen and food menu (pizza, apps, salads) as opposed to the food truck roulette usually featured at breweries. The only issues are the location and parking. I've wanted to come back here several times (it's just blocks from my office, so perfect for an after-work drink), but I just don't want to deal with fighting for one of only a couple spots in their front lot - which other Yelpers have mentioned sometimes get parked in - or risk parking my car on the street in this part of town. It's a shame that such a great place is situated so inconveniently.
